Cozy cottages, shady oaks, waterfront living and thriving art community are some of the reasons to move to Gulfport. The city's history started in 1867 when Mames Barnette chose to build his home here. The town was initially called "Disston City", however Hillsborough county refused to accept it because another town had similar name. Two more names followed after that "Bonifacio" and "Veteran City," before the town became Gulfport in 1910.
Today Gulfport retains the typical small Florida city charm and sense of community, which continues to attract a diverse bunch of new residents. That sense of community and a town seemingly frozen in time are the main attractions of Gulfport.
