The original Carrollwood was built around Lake Carroll, a 200-acre ski lake and consisted of single family homes. Today Carrollwood has grown to include many different styles of architecture and types of homes - from a simple townhome priced at $90,000 to an executive style home on the Emerald Greens Golf course priced at $700,000. What attracts residents to this area is the proximity to downtown Tampa and the airport plus the good schools. The most affordable homes could be found in some of the older communities like Carrollwood Meadows, which are not on the lake. A single family home there could be bought for $120,000. Other popular communities are Carrollwood Village and Carrollwood Reserve, Carrollwood Crossing and the gated Enclave of Carrollwood.
